Indication:
Operation:
Ideally the operative correction of prominent ears should take place already before the school begin
(in the age of 4 - 6 years), because by this time the growth is almost finished and postoperative
disturbances of growth can be eliminated.
The incision is performed exactly behind the ear and either the part of cartilage is reduced by too large earflap
or the cartilage is carved or weakened and sculpted in desired form (the angle between ear and skull should be 30 grad)
by absence of ear fold ( anthelix fold). Position, form and size can be corrected. Also the form and size of earlap can be
operative changed and aligned.
Anaesthesia:
By children the operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia.By adults the relative small operation
is performed under local anaesthesia or if desired also in half-sleep or under general anaesthesia.
Clinic stay :
Usually it is an outpatient treatment, if desired the inpatient stay for one day can take place.
After-care:
Head bandage for 5 days, wearing of headband for 10 days in the day and at night, then for 3 weeks just at night,
no physical exertion, first inspection a day after surgery, the stitches will be removed within 7-10 days after the operation.
